Food (radiation contamination) testing

This standard specifies the method for analyzing radioactive Y nuclides in biological samples using a germanium [HPGe, Ge (Li)] or sodium iodide [Nal (Tl)] r spectrometer. This standard is applicable to biological samples of radioactive Y nuclides with activity above the detection limit. In addition to the sampling and sample preparation section, the r-spectrum analysis method specified in this standard is also applicable to other non biological samples in principle. The term biological sample in this standard refers to terrestrial animals and plants (such as food crops, vegetables, tea, pasture, milk, food, livestock, poultry, and indicative wild animals and plants), aquatic organisms (such as plankton, benthic organisms, seaweed, and aquatic organisms in the ocean or freshwater), as well as human and animal excrement. Method Summary: Place a biological sample with a certain geometric shape at an appropriate position in the germanium or sodium iodide detector of the spectrometer system, obtain the sample Y spectrum, and determine the full energy peak position and net peak area. Based on the energy calibration coefficient of the spectrometer, the full energy peak efficiency calibration coefficient, the emission probability of Y rays, the sample mass (or volume), and relevant parameters or correction coefficients, determine the types of radioactive nuclides and their specific activity in the sample
