On July 1, 2007, the mandatory national standards and 13 national standards for sanitary inspection of drinking water (GB 5749-2006) jointly issued by the National Standards Committee and the Ministry of Health will be officially implemented. This is the first time in 21 years that the country has revised the "Standard for Drinking Water" issued in 1985. The revision of the "Sanitary Standards for Drinking Water" is one of the important measures to ensure the safety of drinking water. Under the coordination of the National Standardization Administration Committee, led by the Ministry of Health, together with the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Land and Resources, the Ministry of Water Resources, and the State Environmental Protection Administration, experts from various fields such as health, water supply, environmental protection, water conservancy, and water resources were organized to jointly participate in the revision of this standard. In the "Hygienic Standards for Drinking Water" issued in 1985, the indicator of turbidity in drinking water was "3-5", while the new "Standards" raised it to "1-3". That is to say, aside from a large number of physical and chemical indicators that the common people cannot understand, the most intuitive feeling is that the water color will be clearer. In fact, turbidity is not only a sensory indicator. Low turbidity can expose bacteria and viruses to water, and disinfectants can effectively kill them. Making drinking water healthier is the core of the new "standards". The old "Standard" only has 35 detection items, among which the majority are related to inorganic pollutants, involving fewer organic pollutants and pesticides, and there are no indicators for detecting microorganisms such as algal toxins. This is seriously incompatible with the situation where water pollution in China has led to a significant increase in organic matter in water. Among the 71 water quality indicators added in the new "Standard", the microbiological indicators have increased from 2 to 6, and the detection of microorganisms such as Giardia lamblia and Cryptosporidium that are prone to gastrointestinal diseases such as abdominal pain and difficult to kill by general disinfection methods has been added. The number of disinfectants for drinking water has increased from 1 to 4, and the number of inorganic compounds in toxicological indicators has increased from 10 to 22. This has increased the detection of halogenated organic substances such as dichloroacetic acid produced during water purification, as well as microcystins from algae and plants present in water. The number of organic compounds increased from 5 to 53, and the number of sensory traits and general physicochemical indicators increased from 15 to 21. Moreover, 8 out of the 35 indicators in the original standard have been revised. At the same time, considering the negative impact of chlorination disinfection methods on water quality safety, the new "Standard" also reconsiders the impact of safe chlorination on water supply safety in water treatment processes and adds related testing items. The new "Standard" is applicable to various types of centralized water supply for domestic drinking water, as well as decentralized water supply for domestic drinking water&Nbsp; The new standard for drinking water has three characteristics: firstly, it strengthens the requirements for organic matter, microorganisms, and disinfection of water quality. The drinking water quality indicators in the new standard have increased from 35 to 106, an increase of 71 items. Among them, microbial indicators increased from 2 to 6; The indicator of disinfectant for drinking water has increased from 1 to 4; The number of inorganic compounds in toxicological indicators has increased from 10 to 21; The number of organic compounds in toxicological indicators increased from 5 to 53; The number of sensory traits and general physicochemical indicators increased from 15 to 20; The radioactive indicators remain at 2. The second is to unify the hygiene standards for drinking water in urban and rural areas. The third is to achieve the integration of drinking water standards with international standards. The selection of new standard water quality items and indicator values has fully considered the actual situation in China, and referred to the World Health Organization's "Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality", as well as the drinking water standards of countries such as the European Union, the United States, Russia, and Japan. The scope of application standards stipulate the hygiene requirements for drinking water quality, drinking water source water quality, centralized water supply units, secondary water supply, hygiene requirements for products related to drinking water hygiene and safety, water quality monitoring and water quality inspection methods. This standard is applicable to various types of centralized water supply for domestic drinking water in urban and rural areas, as well as decentralized water supply for domestic drinking water. The clauses in the following documents are referenced in this standard and become the clauses of this standard. For dated reference documents, all subsequent modifications (excluding errata) or revisions are not applicable to this standard. However, parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to investigate whether the latest versions of these documents can be used.
